AMBOLI
-INTO THE SECRET WORLD OF THE WESTERN GHATS-

cat snake photographed in herping photography tour in amboli, india

Discover the misty forests of Amboli, a biodiversity-rich destination in the northern Western Ghats and one of India’s fascinating locations for herpetology, macro and wildlife photography.

During the monsoon, Amboli transforms into a lush green wilderness. Streams come alive, the forest floor becomes active and the cool, humid nights create ideal conditions for observing some of the Western Ghats’ fascinating amphibians and reptiles.

🐸 A Paradise for Herping & Macro Photography

Amboli is particularly rewarding for photographers interested in creatures that are often overlooked.

Depending on season and conditions, you may encounter:

  • 🐸 Frogs and toads

  • 🐍 Snakes

  • 🦎 Geckos and lizards

  • 🦂 Scorpions and other arthropods

  • 🕷️ Spiders

  • 🦋 Butterflies and moths

  • 🐦 Western Ghats birdlife

  • 🌿 Diverse endemic flora

🌧️ The Magic of the Monsoon

The monsoon is when Amboli truly comes alive.

Mist-covered forests, cascading streams, wet foliage and the sounds of amphibians calling from the darkness create a unique atmosphere for nature photographers.

Night walks offer an entirely different experience, allowing photographers to search carefully for frogs, snakes and other nocturnal creatures while learning about their behaviour and habitat.

📸 Designed for Nature Photographers

Our Amboli expedition is not simply about finding species. It is about slow observation, responsible herping and creating compelling natural-history photographs.

Participants can explore forest trails and suitable habitats with experienced local assistance, learning how to locate and photograph small and elusive creatures without disturbing them.
